Introduction to Space Weather: Concepts and Tools School

About

The CCMC is supporting the Introduction to Space Weather: Concepts and Tools School hosted by the Science for Space Weather Workshop held in in Goa, India, January 24 - 29, 2016.

This full day training program was held on Sunday, January 24, 2016 and was followed by interactive programs and demo sessions throughout the week of the workshop. During the workshop students also got a chance to listen to talks by leading space weather scientists from around the world and interact with them.

The school was a mix of introductory tutorials, demos and hands-on Labs. While the inaugural one-day introductory program and training was geared towards students who seek to gain a broad overview of space weather domains, concepts and tools/resources, scientists and researchers who attended the Science for Space Weather workshop also benefitted from this program. There was a social dinner where students met with the lecturers, got to know each other and had discussions. In addition, demonstrations of specific tools, information on resources and how to best utilize CCMC’s models and web-based resources for science and space weather purposes were conducted during the week. CCMC team members attending the workshop were available during the entire week for advising and additional demos and discussions.

The school was led and organized by CCMC’s specialized space weather scientists and invited space weather experts from different organizations. Regional support was provided by the Center of Excellence in Space Sciences India (CESSI, IISER Kolkata). The school is co-sponsored by CAU, CESSI, COSPAR, ILWS and SCOSTEP. .
