EPREM Model Updates
February 2025
The EPREM model version 0.11 is now available to the community through the CCMC Runs-on-Request (ROR) service.
The Energetic Particle Radiation Environment Module (EPREM) models acceleration and transport of ions in a 3D heliosphere by numerically solving the focused transport equation on a Lagrangian grid in the frame comoving with the solar wind. This model provides a Parker spiral solar wind and accelerates particles via the introduction of an ideal shock. The model is three dimensional and simulates ion dynamics throughout a spherical volume centered on the Sun.
User inputs allow for significant customization of model runs. Solar wind properties, definition of ion populations, seed particle spectra, and shock properties may all be customized using a wide array of user selected input parameters. The ideal shock is a cone that can be introduced with user defined direction and opening angle. Observers may be placed anywhere in the heliosphere and will return solar wind and particle measurements at the position chosen, making EPREM an excellent choice for those wishing to simulate solar energetic particles at various points throughout the heliosphere.
