Fast MagEphem

About

Fast MagEphem quickly computes adiabatic invariants (magnetic ephemeris) for widely-used magnetic field models. It uses a fast version of the IGRF internal field that truncates the internal field multipole expansion to an order appropriate for the altitude of the query point. It also computes invariants for multiple starting pitch angles simultaneously, eliminating the need for multiple integrals on the same field line. Finally, it employs neural networks to compute the drift invariant parameters (L*, Phi, hmin) from the field line quantities without having to actually trace the entire drift orbit. Performance can reach up to 30 times faster on field line tracing and 1000 times faster on drift shell tracing.
