Derek Andeweg

Mail to:
NASA/GSFC Code 674
Greenbelt, MD 20771

Derek Andeweg is a cadet at the United States Air Force Academy and member of the USAFA Flying Team. His major is Meteorology.

Derek's research focuses on poynting flux and joule heating in the auroral region of the ionosphere. This will be accomplished by first converting BATSRUS model data into coordinate system used by the DMSP satellites. Since DMSP satellites fly at an altitude higher than that of the location of the ionosphere in the BATSRUS model, the DMSP data will be mapped down to the BATSRUS ionosphere level.

The purpose of this is to be able to forecast the energy transfer in the ionosphere so that the appropriate actions can be taken to safeguard space assets against increased drag.
