Real-time Ionospheric High Frequency (HF) Vertical Signal Loss Calculated from the AbbyNormal model

These plots are using NOAA-SEC GOES X-ray 5 minute averaged real-time data, as well as NOAA-SEC F10.7 and kp solar index values.

Image features: : Each global plot shows the calculated total HF signal loss in decibels as a function of geographic longitude and latitude on a map of the continents. The dB loss is the integrated for the vertical transit. Shown is the variation in the signal loss as a function of frequency, for 2.5 MHz, 5 MHz, 10 MHz and 20 MHz.

Frequency of 2.5 MHz
2.5 MHz Absorption

Frequency of 5 MHz
5.0 MHz Absorption

Frequency of 10 MHz
10.0 MHz Absorption

Frequency of 10 MHz
20.0 MHz Absorption
